Citizen engagement is key to achieving sustainable local waters. Sustainable Develop Goal number 6 calls for Support and strengthened participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management.
Several of the Baltic Sea City Accelerator Pioneer Cities have expressed interest to develop a deeper dialogue amongst other cities to learn best practices for engaging citizens on water issues. Slupsk, located in Poland for example, is focusing on Water Democracy as their Key Action Area in the City Accelerator.
