City Accelerator - Baltic Sea network for municipalities
The City Accelerator Club is a unique network for municipalities to gain inspiration, new partnerships, and boost innovation together with solutions providers, researchers, and investors. We work together to identify cost-effective, smart, and innovative solutions to address water management challenges, such as:
nutrient reduction calculations
stormwater management
water restoration
project funding
Why municipalities?
We believe that municipalities are vital and play a crucial role in solving the challenges that face the Baltic Sea. Municipalities have local knowledge and can have significant impact on sustainable management of local waters.
The Club is tailored to current needs and equips municipalities with relevant exercises and homework to carry out and advance their water project.
“The City Accelerator pilot programme revealed other ways to look at the Baltic: that there is bigger business potential than we previously thought. ”
— Karin Löfström, Strategist Ecological Sustainability, Kalmar Municipality. Kalmar participated in the Baltic Sea City Accelerator pilot programme during 2015-2017.

City voices and stories
We capture and share the stories and voices of cities and partners from the Baltic Sea City Accelerator Club. They are co-creating and transforming a sustainable blue future of the Baltic Sea Region.
Meet some of the cities from the Spring 2019 programme. We asked them to describe why it is important to clean up the Baltic Sea and to describe some of the challenges that their municipalities face.
Partners play a vital role
Partners are crucial to the success of the Baltic Sea City Accelerator Club programme. Contributing partners provide valuable expertise, time, resources, and meeting venues. Race For The Baltic coordinates and manages the Baltic Sea City Accelerator Club programme.
Listen to one of our partners the Boston Consulting Group describe their engagement in the Baltic Sea, and one funder, the Baltic Sea Conservation Fund who explain what projects they finance and what they are looking for when they support a project.
