Underwater Restoration Project collaborating to reduce internal load

LOVA grant opens up opportunities for collaboration.

As a result of our event in Nyköping, we have new discussions with five Swedish municipalities – on the technology to bind phosphorus in the bottom sediment. We will organize another inspirational day in Uppsala on September 13th, more information further down in the newsletter.

The 1,1 MSEK grant for Lokala vattenvårdsprojekt (LOVA) which was granted RFTB in Q1, has already opened opportunities to cooperate with an extended number of partners. We attended LIFE IP Rich Water's event to discuss how all the projects within the programme are proceeding. We see a value in how our project will contribute to a further development of a method to reduce internal load of phosphorus in brackish waters.

Inspirational days for measures against eutrophication

The Underwater Restoration Project is holding an inspirational day 13th of September in Uppsala, where presenters will be talking about eutrophication, internal load, and relevant measures that can be taken and has been taken in the area. We look forward to welcoming everyone that is interested in these topics to a half day full of inspiring presentations and time to mingle. The event is free of charge, and we invite you for lunch. Find more information and register for the event here: Inspirationsdag för åtgärder mot övergödning

The day is a repetition of a successful day that was held in Nyköping in May, which was followed by many fruitful meetings and discussions. Among the municipalities we have had the possibility to meet and discuss these issues with; Nyköping, Södertälje, Strängnäs, Hallsberg and Trosa. The material from Nyköping is available here: UWR inspirational day May 5 2022

Meetings all over Sweden to discuss measures against eutrophication
We attended the EU Life Rich Waters event in Uppsala in May to discuss with other partners how all the projects are proceeding. RFTB is part of one of the projects since we were granted 1,1 million SEK for Lokala vattenvårdsprojekt (LOVA) from Blekinge Länsstyrelse to conduct a project together with Brian Huser at SLU that is co-financed with Life Rich Waters. The purpose of our project is to further develop a national model that has been developed within the EU Life project Rich Waters to assess and reduce the internal load of phosphorus in Swedish lakes. The collected data in our project will be used to further develop the tool to also include brackish water environments in bays in the Baltic Sea. The goal is that it will be possible to use the tool also for decisions on measures to be taken against internal load in bays.

In June, Havs- och vattenmyndigheten arranged an event in Enköping for local coordinators for measures taken to improve water quality and biodiversity. RFTB participated to listen in and better understand what the issues and bottlenecks are and to discuss possible solutions.
