Final Stages of the Port Project and the Launch of the Dry Bulk Project

In the third quarter of 2024, we finalized the Port project. As the one of the last activities we ensured that some of Poland’s largest ports implemented our Catalogue of Best Practices and Technologies for Handling Dry Bulk Fertilizer into their port guidelines. Also, finally, our prevention covers in West Pomerania have started to be produced.

As the Port project ended, we started our new project “Dry Bulk” in July. This project will focus on reducing the leakage of other phosphorus rich dry bulk materials such as seed, fodder etc. The project is co-financed via the Interreg South Baltic Programme ("PortSHAZ")." In line with this new project, we made visits to a few Baltic dry bulk terminals and attended the Baltic Port Organization Conference in Klaipeda.

Catalogue Implementation

Throughout the third quarter of 2024, we cooperated with Polish ports, including Gdansk, Gdynia, and Szczecin-Świnoujście, to assist in implementing the Catalogue of Best Practices and Technologies for Handling Dry Bulk Fertilizer into their port guidelines. As an initial step, these major ports published the catalogue on their websites and promoted it among seaport terminals. Smaller ports, such as Kołobrzeg and Elbląg, have also decided to adopt the catalogue into their internal regulations and procedures.

Progress on Prevention Covers

We are now in the final stage of producing three new prevention covers in terminals in the West Pomerania, Poland. The covers are scheduled to be ready and installed by autumn 2024.

Kick-Off of the Dry Bulk project

We started the Dry Bulk Project in July. This project is co-financed via the Interreg South Baltic Programme ("PortSHAZ")". In this project we will collaborate with partners from Poland, Lithuania, Germany, and Denmark and focus on addressing and mitigating the environmental hazards associated with dry bulk cargo operations in ports across the South Baltic Sea region. We already started to gather best practices by visiting dry bulk terminals in Riga and Liepaja and by looking at legislation regarding the handling of dry bulk in ports.

BPO Conference 2024

In September, we attended the Baltic Ports Conference 2024 in Klaipeda. Following the conference, we co-hosted a meeting with the Port of Klaipeda for dry bulk terminal operators. The session primarily focused on presenting our Catalogue and discussing the local context.
