Wrap-up with LIFE IP Rich Waters on internal loading

RFTB participated in a workshop organised by LIFE IP Rich Waters, focusing on internal loading in the coastal zones of the Baltic Sea. The workshop featured several presentations, including “Thriving Bays in the Baltic Sea,” which discussed aluminum application in a shallow bay, and the project to improve lake Öljaren through low-flow dredging and reduction fishing. Participants also visited the shallow bay “Högklykeviken” close to Östhammar that is affected by internal loading but now is undergoing aluminum treatment to re-establish its good ecological status. Additionally, updated guidelines for identifying waters with enhanced internal loading were presented, including information on measures in bays, a joint project with RFTB and SLU.  We hope the findings and experiences from this project will be preserved and promoted as valuable tools for combating eutrophication in municipalities in Sweden. Read more about the treatment of Högklykeviken in Dagens Nyheter.
