The PortSHAZ project kicked off in July 1st, however the kickoff event did not take place until October in Q4. At this event we met with our PortSHAZ project partners physically for the first time; Port of Elblag, K2 Solutions, Coastal Research and Planning Institute (Ptpi) and Institute for Sustainable Economy and Logistics. On this two-day event we set the plan for the coming activities years ahead and also did a study visit to the Vistula Spit.

First Work Package Activity approved

In November we submitted our first work package activity in PortSHAZ. “EcoPort: Compile a list of all relevant frameworks, methodologies, tools and projects related to dry bulk cargo handling in Baltic ports” and we were happy to inform that this material was approved.

Catalogue Implementation

In Q4 we continued to spread the knowledge from the Catalogue of Best Practices and Technologies for Handling Dry Bulk. Firstly, we re-designed the material to be more user friendly and then we presented this at the BPO’s  Ports for Climate Conference 2024 in Tallinn. It was very well-received, and several ports asked to get a copy of this catalogue.

Prevention Covers in Place

Finally, the prevention cover at Fabryka Zieleni (formally known as Fosfan) was put in place. This was celebrated on social media and we will move on to look at another activities where we can support this company in improving their work for the Baltic Sea. Additionally, the refurbished, more durable prevention cover in the Port of Gdańsk was installed that bring new quality to the Baltic Sea protection.

Our other prevention covers are in production still but we hope to have them in place on the quays in Q1 next year.
